Thursday, April 23, marked the first round of the NFL Draft for the upcoming 2020 season.  There were a few surprises, although no trades for picks in the top ten.  One surprise was the Green Bay Packers drafting quarterback, Jordan Love, out of Utah State University.   This brings some questions as to what Aaron Rodger’s future is going to look like.  With the fifth pick, the Miami Dolphins drafted quarterback, Tua Tagavioloa, who they hope will turn things around and be the face of the franchise.  Another big name QB to go early in the first round was Justin Herbert out of the University of Oregon.  He was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers with the sixth pick.  With the loss of long time quarterback, Philip Rivers, Herbert is just the type of winner that the Chargers are looking for.

One surprising pick was the New York Jets taking a chance on offensive tackle, Mekhi Becton, out of the University of Louisville.  He was flagged by the NFL and scouts for a failed drug test, but current Jets’ QB, Sam Darnold, needs the protection.  The Raiders also came up with an interesting pick, Henry Ruggs III, out of the University of Alabama.  He is the fastest receiver in the draft, but not as polished as some of his teammates.  To win in a division with the Kansas City Chiefs, Coach Jon Gruden knows that only speed beats speed.  With some interesting picks, the first one was not.  The Cincinnati Bengals did not shock anyone with the top pick.  They drafted reigning College Football Champion, Joe Burrow, out of Louisiana State University.  He also seems like the perfect pick for this team because he can be the face of the franchise and thrives under pressure.
