The Electoral College

The Electoral College represents the population of the entire country. States like California and Texas have a lot more electoral votes than states like Wyoming and Tennessee due to the population size that the state has. The Electoral College was originally created to help farmers overturn popular votes, such as the 2016 election. During the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton had won by popular vote, but Donald Trump had won the presidency through the Electoral College. Even though the electoral votes are supposed to represent a region in the state, there are often faithless electors who break their pledge to vote for the opposite of what they promised. The previous election proved how influential the Electoral College is, which led to people opposing the Electoral College in support of only popular votes for the next coming elections.
