Journalism, Avid, and Other Groups Honored at the Renaissance Rally

Lainie Gomez, Staff Writer

As another year passes, yet another rally takes place on the campus of Chino Hills High School. The latest rally held on November 2 was carnival themed and had students enthralled by the various decorations, and costumes strewed throughout the large gym. Countless groups and individuals alike took their turn in the “ spotlight” and were recognized for their achievements or talents. This year, our very own Journalism class was chosen to come and be a part of the rally as an honored group. On the day of the rally, our class sat down on the floor area near the middle of the gym among the usual performers such as the dance team. The usual rally experience was suddenly amplified by an astonishing amount. The music, lights, and overall energy of the room increased and at the moment could make anyone simply feel excited by sitting in their seat and watching. Not only is the rally more exciting from the floor area, but it is much more engaging as well. Student announcers and staff often choose closer students to participate in various games and competitions. The entire rally from start to finish can be seen and understood clearly, creating a more exciting and involving atmosphere for students of every grade. The performances, however, are the most exhilarating when seen from down on the floor level. Individuals such as the juggler and baton twirler could be seen and appreciated much more from up close. It creates a new sense of enticement from the audience opposed to watching from the back of the gym. The most compelling moment, however, was when Journalism was called up into the center of the gym to be honored as a class for producing the Howler school paper. Seeing the blinding lights and blaring music inspire individuals to be proud of their class and their achievements. The rally may seem mundane at times, but can surprisingly inspire students to do better and get involved in high school.
