Congratulations to this year’s Science Fair team of Audrey Sogata and Wynn Phaychanpheng who won medals for second place in the Senior Division of the California Science & Engineering Fair, that was held April 23 and 24 in Los Angeles. An interesting fact is that one of the winners is Mrs. Tasanont’s older daughter Wynn, who collectively with Audrey won second place in the California Science Fair in February, moving on to compete at the state level. When asking Mrs. Tasanont about how long the girls thought about their topic for their project, which was titled “Jasmonic Acid Regulation of Abiotic Stresses in Brassica Rapa and Arabidopsis Thaliana” she said they spent many months “brainstorming about their project” even in the summer they were brainstorming. Now the actual project was about testing if Jasmonic Acid is a feasible solution to fight droughts and help plants with how much salt they contain. Now this power duo has actually owned it at the state level, winning medals for the last three years. Also, in general, for the science fair, if you are interested in participating next year, I would definitely recommend you talk to Mrs. Tasanont as she is amazingly helpful and an extremely great person. When it was still possible to join the science fair this year I remember how she would always encourage us to do it and for the kids who did participate, they were always asking for her help and no matter what obligations she had she would still help the students because she is truly an amazing person.
